Capital Assets

Long-term assets that are not intended for sale in the regular course of business, including property, plant, equipment, and intangible assets used in operations.

For example, a hospital’s capital assets might include the main facility building, medical equipment, ambulances, and computer systems, all of which provide economic benefits over multiple years rather than being consumed in daily operations.

Capital assets typically represent significant investments requiring proper planning, financing, and management. These assets are capitalized rather than expensed, with their costs allocated over their estimated useful lives through depreciation or amortization to match expenses with the revenues they help generate.
